What CQC’s September update says
CQC’s 14 September 2026 update reinforces the training requirement on learning disability and autism for services delivering a CQC-regulated activity. It points providers to the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice and CQC’s current guidance.
CQC says training uptake remains uneven. It also makes clear that it cannot endorse specific training programmes. Providers should therefore check suitability against official guidance rather than relying on a course’s marketing claims.
Turn training records into a useful review
ServPatch suggests bringing three questions to your next staff development review:
- What learning has each member of staff completed, and what remains outstanding?
- How does that learning relate to the people they support and the work they do?
- How will managers check understanding in everyday practice?
A completion date is useful evidence, but a conversation about how learning changes care can reveal where further support is needed. Keep agreed actions and review dates alongside the training record.
